Start with the platform’s purpose
Alibaba describes 1688 as a domestic wholesale marketplace and Taobao as a consumer retail platform. [1] [2] That is a starting point for research, not a promise about every seller. Check minimum quantities and price tiers on 1688; check the selected variant and included accessories on Taobao. Matching photographs do not prove that products are identical.
One item or a repeat order?
For a personal purchase, shortlist exact models. For repeat sourcing, ask about stock, consistent materials and colours, production time and samples. Avoid ordering surplus units only to unlock a lower advertised price: surplus still costs money to purchase, ship and store. Choose using the seller’s confirmed offer rather than the first price shown in a listing.
Compare two complete quotes
Record the price at your quantity, seller delivery to the Chinese warehouse, purchasing assistance, inspection and packing. Add international freight and possible import charges for the destination separately. Freight may remain an estimate until packing is complete. Both quotes must cover the same specification and accessories before their totals can be meaningfully compared.
An illustrative ten-unit comparison
Offer A: 10 × CNY 30 + CNY 20 domestic delivery = CNY 320. Offer B: 10 × CNY 32 + CNY 0 domestic delivery = CNY 320. These are teaching figures, not 1688BUY rates. The pre-freight totals match; weight, dimensions, services and taxes may change the final result. A lower unit price does not guarantee a lower delivered cost.

Send both links, screenshots of the variants, quantities by SKU, and your destination city and country. State whether substitutions in colour, material or model are acceptable.
